From “Good Girl Gone Bad” to “Humanitarian.” It looks like Rihanna’s on her way to becoming a regular Angelina Jolie. (Better hide your hubbies, ladies.)
The flame-haired stylista has been hailed Italian Vogue’s Woman of the Year.
Good call?
Rihanna edged out other globally-conscious pop tarts — including Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez — for the honor thanks to her charity work in her native Barbados and preservance to tackle adversity in her personal life, which includes troubled relationships with her former boyfriend Chris Brown and her drug addicted estranged father Ronald Fenty. The sexy “S&M” singer, who first graced the cover of the famous fashion mag back in Sept. 2009, has campaigned to raise awareness for breast cancer, world famine, and launched an online campaign to find a bone marrow donor for six-year-old Jasmina Anema, a pint-sized Rihanna fanatic who eventually lost her battle with leukemia.
“Independent, energetic, the young Robyn Rihanna Fenty (only 23) is our woman of the year and not just by virtue of numbers and figures but also, and foremost, for her kind and fighting spirit. The same spirit that brought her from Barbados to the top of the music charts achieving a career which she has forged and mastered completely by herself (whose last move was to become the new ambassador for Armani),” editors for Italy’s edition of the world-renowned Fashion Bible wrote in a blog this week.
“Rihanna is the undisputed best contender to the role of queen of pop. Her career has always been based on the cunning use of sexiness and provocation,” the post continued. “She has managed to cultivate her career despite the many tragedies affecting her private life: from her father’s addiction to crack … to the violence caused to her in 2009 by [her] then-boyfriend, Chris.”
