In celebration of the life and musical legacy of singer Amy Winehouse, MTV will air a concert special featuring rarely seen footage of the beehived star during an intimate 2007 performance, the network said Tuesday.
Originally filmed in April 2007, the performance show features an introspective Winehouse shortly after the release of her blockbuster sophomore album, Back to Black, just as she stood on the cusp of superstardom. It was a rare American television appearance for Amy, who hit the MTV Studio stage for the first time as part of the music series, 45th at Night. Backed by the The Dap-Kings and with a little help from Mos Def, Winehouse performed a rendition of her hits, including “Love Is a Losing Game,” “Rehab,” Back To Black, and “Me & Mr. Jones.”
The British neo soul singer was cremated following a private funeral Tuesday. The Grammy Award winner’s lifeless body was discovered by a bodyguard in the bedroom of her North London home on Saturday afternoon. Despite Winehouse’s storied history with drugs and alcohol, the cause of her death has not yet been determined. An autopsy conducted Monday proved
inconclusive and the authorities are waiting for the results of toxicology reports before issuing an official cause of death.
